Thanks for the blog. When my son "struggled" in high school it all came down to helping him clarify, as a believer, what his identity actually was and why that was his true identity. And that he was not the "Big Man on Campus", "Football Player", "Party Guy", and so on. It took a long time for God's grace to work itself out in him, but in the end Christ was all he had.

One thing I would like to comment on is your last two sentences. Behavior is anchored in your identity, but your nature determines your desires and your desires determine your identity (and then your behavior). You will always behave according to your nature.

Intriguing article. Not only does it fit quite well toward addressing our self-perceived "identity" and "worth" as believers in Christ, but it absolutely also addresses the issue of "identity" that the lost so often connect to their own sinful addictions.

Most notably to me is the "identity" that those trapped in homosexual bondage associate with their sexual behaviors and addictions today. This one issue is at the core of why it is so deeply difficult for any "out and proud" homosexual to see any value or good at all in the grace of God that is freely offered to them through redemption in Jesus Christ.

This self-perceived false-identity is a satanic distortion of deeply-rooted additional sexual, relational, emotional and psychological issues that always play into homosexual behavior patterns. And those identity issues must be addressed compassionately and directly first, before most homosexuals will ever be open to hearing the genuine "good news" that is offered to them through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
